On a boat with your dog in the Argentario: how it feels, what to bring

A dog does well on a boat when the trip is built around him: shade, fresh water, calm sea, short tailored routes. Our tips, seasickness, and the most comfortable boat.

"Will my dog be okay on a boat?" is the question owners ask us most. The honest answer is: almost always yes, if the trip is built around him. Here's how we plan a day on the boat with a dog, what to bring and what we provide.

How it feels on board

A boat is more comfortable for a dog than it looks: the deck is wide and stable, there's shade under the T-top, and from the boat the water is a step away. Most dogs, after the first few minutes, lie down and enjoy the day as they would at home.

Our measures are simple:

  • shade always available on board;
  • fresh water and a bowl, to drink and to cool off;
  • shorter trips to suit a dog that prefers fewer hours in the sun;
  • stops in sheltered coves, where the water is calm and getting in and out is easy.

Seasickness, and how to avoid it

Dogs can feel the sea too, but with a little care it rarely happens. Best not to let him board on too full a stomach, pick a calm day, and keep the first trip short. If the dog is restless at the start, we slow down and stay close to the coast until he settles. A dog that has been on a boat before usually climbs on and settles by himself.

The right boat

For anyone with a dog, or who wants to get on and off without effort, Poupi is the comfortable choice: our 2025 boat, with easy access on board, designed also for those who move more carefully. The other two, Libera and Mako, remain great for groups and long days.

On board with us, dog included: Blue Vibes is pet friendly at no extra cost and no cleaning fee (the boat is sanitised after every outing). Tell us your dog's size and character, and whether he's been on a boat before: we build the day around him. Message us on WhatsApp.

What to bring

A lead for stops ashore, his own towel, his mat if he uses one, and food if the trip is long. Fresh water, a bowl and shade are already on board.
