The best time for a boat trip in the Argentario

The Argentario by boat month by month, from May to October: water, wind, crowds and jellyfish. June and September for a quiet coast, July and August for the warmest sea.

The season for a boat day in the Argentario runs from May to October, but each month has its own character. Some come for warm water, some for an empty sea, some for a holiday and some for a weekend. Here's the promontory month by month, with a tip for each kind of visitor.

May and June: empty sea, long light

In May the water is still cool but the days are long and the coast almost deserted. June is the month we prefer: water warming up, few boats, coves free. For the Argentario without the crowds, it's the best time.

July and August: high summer

These are the hottest and busiest months. The water is at its warmest, the days perfect for swimming, but the best-known coves fill up. Here the private tour makes the difference: you leave early, choose the quieter coves and skip the midday crush. Ferragosto, mid-August, is the peak: best to book ahead.

September and October: the best tail end

September is often the ideal month: water still warm from summer, golden light, and calm returning to the coast. In October the days shorten and the sea can change faster, but on fine days you still go out, with the Argentario to yourself.

Wind, jellyfish and crowds

The promontory has its own microclimate: the wind can turn within hours, which is why we decide the route in the morning. Jellyfish come and go, usually with certain currents, and change from week to week. Crowds follow the calendar: weekends and August are the fullest, midweek in June and September the quietest.

With your dog: for anyone travelling with a dog, the cooler months are the most comfortable. May, June and September avoid the strong midday heat, which for a dog is the hardest part. In high summer we keep the trip to the cooler hours, with shade always ready on board. Message us on WhatsApp and we'll find the right date.

The tip, in short

You want warm water and don't mind crowds: July and August, leaving early. You want a quiet Argentario with good water: June and September. You're after the best light and the emptiest coast: May and October, keeping an eye on the weather.
